45th Bailleau International & 22nd "Amical" Gliding Contest

Welcome to Bailleau 2019 !

This year, the 45th edition of the Bailleau International Gliding Contest will be held from July 30th (first task) until August 9th (last task), writing another year of classic flat land sailplane racing..

Whether a seasoned veteran or an aspiring competition pilot, we hope that you will come to appreciate our club spirit geared towards flying but always mindful of family & friends.

We sincerely hope that you enjoy your stay with us and that whatever your flying experience or your glider type, your goals and expectations will be met by a unique contest.

Our contest brings a significant change compared to traditional competitions, seeking to meet the expectations of competitors who want a contest tailored to their flying wishes.

Therefore, classes in Bailleau Contest are :

  • International / Speed Race : for those who prefer to fly the fastest, during the optimal period of the day, or for those who prefer to be on time for the evening barbecue ;-)
  • International / Long Flights : this class is the one that best fits a "usual" contest task, where tasks are set to maximize distance, aross most of the flying day ...

If you're unsure about which class to choose, please contact us

Like every year for 22 years now, Bailleau International will also be running the now famous "Amical" Contest, for which it will be the 22nd edition : a very good atmosphere, a competition aimed at rookie racing pilots, the "Amical" was initiated by Bernard Launay, and it is one of the best ways for a pilot to take his first steps in competition ...

Its main purpose is to allow contestants to discover all aspects of a competition, but with the benefits of a dedicated organisation, achieving a stress level close to 0% ! While it definitely IS a gliding contest, the "Amical" can act as a perfect springboard for the Bailleau International Contest (In 2016, the "Amical" took off for a 388 km task, so you may expect this again this year, provided good soaring conditions ...)

Here are the important dates for these 2 contests :

  • "Welcome" Briefing : Monday, July 29, at 7 PM
  • First Task : Tuesday, July 30
  • Last Task : Friday, August 9
  • Awards Ceremony : Saturday, August 10, at 11 AM

Trophée Robert Le Maon

To conclude, we would like to add that there is a side race within the Bailleau International contest : the "Trophée Le Maon" (named after a former and iconic Chief Pilot in Bailleau). This trophy awards the "fastest" pilot during the Contest.

On August 2nd 2018, Sjoerd Van Empelen (GeZC) flew a record breaking 438km task at a speedy 133.7 kph !

The "Trophée Le Maon" is up for grabs every year, and the first competitor who manages three consecutive wins will earn the right to keep it permanently ...
